The Descartes edition has, over the years, gained many expansions. Most of these offered new tracks (two with each box, or four in the case of the USA tracks). We offer here a review of the best four tracks, according to an old school player, a Formula Dé champion.

Spa-Francorchamps

The best track ever released! Why? Because it’s on this track that tactics and tension were at their best - you had to take care when designing your car and it was imperative to take advantage of the faintest opportunity to get an advantage. A delight for the brain and a torture for the nerves! It’s with this track that I’ve had the most fun.

Suzuka

This is the first track I’ve ever won on in a Great Championship! A track, which required perfect mastery of the various parts of the game. It’s less tense than Spa, but still demands crucial choices and constant risk-taking to take the lead. Moreover, the chances of overtaking an opponent were greater, spicing up the race with multiple unexpected twists. It also happens to be the only “8″ shaped track out there, an original shape made of crossings and many curves.

Monterey (Laguna Seca)

This was the first interesting American track, with a harsh “double or nothing” aspect. I actually remember the near-mythical curve which has caused so many accidents, both in real life and on the board. This track demands a constant sense of tactical anticipation, and it’s really felt around the board! Laughter and sweat were present when the critical part of the track came up.

Buenos Aires

The main thing of interest on this track was its length. The mechanics of the cars would get roughed up and everything had to be focused on improving their endurance. To make things harder, the track was made for speed, and drivers would spend most of their time in 5th or 6th gear. To win, you had to find a way of combining both resistance and speed.

  1. Personally, I prefer Interlagos and Long Beach, but that may be because those are the tracks I’ve had the most wins on.

The full-on double-sized Zandvoort track is nice too, because despite its size, it actually plays rather quickly.

Bahrain is also nice, because of the way you can hit 6th gear on the back straight with proper gear management.

    In order, my prefer tracks:

    Zandvoort 1&2 (in full configuration)
    Spa-Francorchamps
    Suzuka
    Watkins Glen

In all these circuits use gear in way a lot balanced.

  3. One month without a new post. Is this blog officially dead now?

    Hello,
I would like to know from where I can order the new expansion circuits for Formula De. I live in Greece.

    Thank you in advance!

  5. For the original Formula De tracks, your best bet is auction sites like eBay.
For the new Formula D track, visit your Friendly Local Game Store and ask them to order it.

BUT PLZ GIVE THESE EXAPNSION CIRCUITS OUT AGAIN!!! REPRINT THEM OR SOMETHING! THE NEW CIRCUITS (Sebring/chicago) ARE AWFULLY BAD COMPARED TO THESE!!!

My personal top 5 at the moment (although I have all the boards I still havent played all of them)
    1. Spa
    2. Interlagos
    3. Sepang
    4. Watkins Glen
    5. Buenos-Aires

    Least favourite
    1. Zhuhai (worst)
    2. Monaco (just played it to death being the first board)
    3. Magny Cours

  8. How do you get those unoriginal boards???? i want all of them badly!!!

  9. Kalidor says:

    I disagree with Morgan, above…

I think the new tracks, especially Valenica and the updated Hockenheim, are quite good.

I could do without the street race tracks, but all in all, Asmodee is doing an incredible job so far!

A couple of my favorite of the classic tracks are:

    Suzuka (figure 8!)
    Monaco (just classic)
Magny-Cours (I love the double back)

They all have their good moments and deserve spots in any fan’s collection.
